Micro quilting sews the outer damask cover to the top layers of upholstery, creating a quilted pattern that covers the whole sleeping surface. This results in less upholstery movement avoiding any lumps appearing in the mattress. The foundation of the mattress is its spring unit, a robust and firm open coil spring (also known as a Bonnell spring). Open coil spring units are made up of rows of hourglass shaped springs connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. The edge of the spring unit is strengthened by a thick, rod-edge wire that adds support to the perimeter and avoids border breakdown.
