The Elegance Orthopaedic Luxury double size mattress enjoys a blend of firm orthopaedic springs, generous layers of upholstery and a soft woven cover. The mattress has several layers of white fibre fillings, combined with firm fillings to create a supportive, yet comfortable sleeping surface. It features a hand tufted finish, a series of tapes that are passed through the mattress at regular intervals and held in place with cotton tufts on each side. The hand tufting process secures the fillings and pre-tensions the mattress. This results in a firmer feel and ensures the upholstery stays in place. The spring system in the Elegance Orthopaedic Luxury is a 12.5 gauge open coil unit, one of the firmest wires used in mattress manufacturing. Its robust, durable and made up of rows of hourglass shaped springs connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. The perimeter of the spring unit is reinforced by a thick, rod-edge wire that adds support to the border of the mattress. This lets you sleep right up to the edge without the sensation of rolling off. The mattress boasts 2 rows of hand side stitching; a labour intensive process that sews the pocket springs to the outside of the mattress border. The side stitched process provides total edge to edge support and prevents the border from bowing out and enhances the life span of the mattress.
