Supplied in the UK by Shire Beds, the Source 5 is a single contract mattress that consists of medium support open coil springs, layers of white fibre fillings and a deep quilted cotton cover. Commercial organisations such as hotels, guest houses, care homes and student accommodation have to abide by strict government legislation that requires them to use Source 5 (Crib 5) mattresses. Divan set and mattresses used in the above establishments must adhere to BS7177 ignition fire regularity standards that go further than those required for domestic home use. At the core of the mattress is a robust 13.5 gauge open coil spring system that is made up of rows of hour-glass shaped springs, connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. Additional strength is added to the border of the interior by attaching a thick rod-edge wire to the perimeter of the spring system. This prevents border breakdown on edges that are sat on regularly. This additional edge support allows you the use of the full width and lets you sleep comfortably right up to the edge of the mattress without the sensation of rolling off. The mattress is dual-sided, so to extend its life we recommend that you flip it over and rotate it regularly from top to bottom.
