The Backcare has been purposely designed to cater for taller people who struggle to get comfortable in a normal bed and is part of a range of extra long double mattresses. Standard double mattresses are 6'3 in length and suitable for most people, but for those who have to curl up to keep warm, we are offering the option of 6'6 and 6'9 lengths. The mattress has an orthopaedic support and is skilfully upholstered in a resilient damask cover that features a hand tufted finish for additional strength and durability. The purpose of tufting is to attach the outer cover to the fillings and spring interior by passing tapes through it at regular intervals and securing them on both sides with a cotton tuft. This procedure not only ensures the white fibre fillings stay in place, it also pre-tensions the mattress, resulting in a firmer sleeping surface. The interior features a 12.5 gauge open coil unit, one of the firmest used in mattress manufacturing and is made up of rows of hourglass shaped springs connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. The border of the mattress is strengthened by a thick, rod-edge wire that adds support to the perimeter of the mattress, allowing you to sleep right up to the edge without the sensation of rolling off.
