As a standard double is only 6'3 long, we have created a range to cater for those who are taller than average and now offer a choice of mattresses with lengths of 6'6 and 6'9 At 33cm deep, the Ascot Orthopaedic is well filled and designed for those who prefer a very firm support and is upholstered in a striped damask cover with a hand tufted finish. Its hand tufted finish is achieved by passing a series of tapes through the mattress panels at regular intervals and securing them on each side with a cotton tuft. The benefit of hand tufting is it pre-tensions the whole of the mattress ensuring the white fibre fillings remain firmly in place; resulting in a firmer sleeping surface. The foundation of the mattress is its spring system, a robust 12.5 gauge open coil unit and one of the firmest wires used in mattress manufacturing. Open coil systems are tough, durable and made up of rows of hourglass shaped springs connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. The perimeter of the spring unit is strengthened by a thick, rod-edge wire that adds support to the border of the mattress. This lets you sleep right up to the edge without the sensation of rolling off. Although we are offering extra long double mattresses, we can make longer, shorter, wider and narrower mattresses to suit an odd-size bedroom or space.
