Open coil interiors consist of rows of robust springs running from head to toe and connected into one single unit by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. For additional strength, a thick 6 gauge rod-edge wire is attached to the perimeter of the spring system, thus preventing border breakdown and allowing the use of the full width of the mattress.
