The coils are constructed into one single unit with helical wire that joins the coils at the top and bottom to form several rows. An outer rod-edge is then fitted around the perimeter of the finished structure, providing additional strength and support. To ensure a comfortable and supportive sleeping surface, the spring unit is sandwiched between generous layers of orthopaedic fillings.
