Manufactured in the UK by Shire Beds, the Source 5 is a deep quilted contract mattress that consists of medium open coil springs, hypo-allergenic fillings and a durable cotton cover. Due to strict government legislation, organisations such as hotels, guest houses, care homes and student accommodation require Source 5 (Crib 5) mattresses that are specifically designed for commercial use. Mattresses used in these establishments must adhere to BS7177 ignition fire regularity standards that go further than those required for domestic home use. At the core of the mattress is a robust 13.5 gauge open coil spring system that is made up of rows of hour-glass shaped springs, connected at the top and bottom by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. Additional strength is added to the border of the interior by attaching a thick rod-edge wire to the perimeter of the spring system. This prevents border breakdown on edges that are sat on regularly. This additional edge support allows you the use of the full width and lets you sleep comfortably right up to the edge of the mattress without the sensation of rolling off. The mattress is dual-sided, so to extend its life, we recommend that you flip it over and rotate it regularly from head to toe.
